M A D A N T S is a Warsaw-based production company, founded in 2015 by Klaudia Śmieja and Beata Rzeźniczek, joined in 2019 by Bogna Szewczyk, aiming to produce independent films with potential for distribution and international festival access.
Since then it has become one of the most active Polish production outlets, making such films as Claire Denis' HIGH LIFE (TIFF, San Sebastian FF 2018, US distribution by A24), starring Robert Pattinson and Juliette Binoche, partly shot in Poland, as well as Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurdsson's UNDER THE TREE (Venice FF, TIFF, US distribution by Magnolia Pictures), Babis Maridis' Sundance-selected PITY or Emir Baigazin's THE RIVER (Best Director winner at Venice Orizzonti selection), Ragnar Bragason’s THE GARDEN or Agnieszka Holland’s CHARLATAN (premiered at Berlinale Special Gala 2020, shortlisted for 2021 Academy Award).
Madants’ other co-production credits include Sofia Exarchou’s PARK (TIFF, San Sebastian FF), Gabe Klinger’s PORTO starring Anton Yelchin (executive produced by Jim Jarmusch), Janis Nords’ FOAM AT THE MOUTH and Timur Makarevic’s NOTHING BUT THE WIND.
We are currently producing (in a collaboration with Warner Bros Poland) a dark hip-hop musical titled OTHER PEOPLE, directed by Aleksandra Terpińska (The Best Fireworks Ever – Semaine de La Critique) and Agnieszka Smoczyńska’s first English-language film SILENT TWINS, starring Black Panther’ actress Letitia Wright.
We are involved in several upcoming co-productions, including among others, Ukrainian–Polish film PAMFIR by Dmytro Sukholytkyy-Sobchuk; Icelandic co-production LAMB by Valdimar Jóhannsson starring Noomi Rapace (premiering at Cannes 2021) as well as THE BRUTALIST by Brady Corbet featuring Joel Edgerton; Chilean feature BLANQUITA by Fernando Guzzoni and BABI YAR by Sergei Loznitsa.
In 2017 the company has set up a distribution venture aiming to work with art house and edgy titles, under the label of M A D N E S S D I S T R I B U T I O N.
