M A D A N T S is a Warsaw-based production company, founded in 2015 by Klaudia Śmieja and Beata Rzeźniczek, joined in 2019 by Bogna Szewczyk, aiming to produce independent films with potential for distribution and international festival access.
Since then it has become one of the most active Polish production outlets, making such films as Claire Denis' HIGH LIFE (TIFF, San Sebastian FF 2018, US distribution by A24), starring Robert Pattinson and Juliette Binoche, partly shot in Poland, as well as Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurdsson's UNDER THE TREE (Venice FF, TIFF, US distribution by Magnolia Pictures), Babis Maridis' Sundance-selected PITY, Emir Baigazin's THE RIVER (Best Director winner at Venice Orizzonti selection), Ragnar Bragason’s THE GARDEN, Agnieszka Holland’s CHARLATAN (premiered at Berlinale Special Gala 2020, shortlisted for 2021 Academy Award), Icelandic co-production LAMB by Valdimar Jóhannsson starring Noomi Rapace (Un Certain Regard Cannes 2021) and produced in a collaboration with Warner Bros Poland a dark hip-hop musical titled OTHER PEOPLE, directed by Aleksandra Terpińska (Tallinn Black Nights FF 2021).
Madants’ other co-production credits include Sofia Exarchou’s PARK (TIFF, San Sebastian FF), Gabe Klinger’s PORTO starring Anton Yelchin (executive produced by Jim Jarmusch), Janis Nords’ FOAM AT THE MOUTH and Timur Makarevic’s NOTHING BUT THE WIND.
We are currently producing Agnieszka Smoczyńska’s first English-language film SILENT TWINS, starring Black Panther’ actress Letitia Wright.
We are involved in several upcoming co-productions, including among others, Ukrainian–Polish film PAMFIR by Dmytro Sukholytkyy-Sobchuk; as well as THE BRUTALIST by Brady Corbet featuring Joel Edgerton; Chilean feature BLANQUITA by Fernando Guzzoni, BABI YAR by Sergei Loznitsa and JOIKA by James Napier Robertson starring Talia Ryder and Diane Kruger.
In 2017 the company has set up a distribution venture aiming to work with art house and edgy titles, under the label of M A D N E S S D I S T R I B U T I O N.
