MADANTS is a Warsaw-based production company, founded in 2015 by Klaudia Śmieja-Rostworowska and Beata Rzeźniczek, joined in 2019 by Bogna Szewczyk-Skupień, aiming to produce independent films with potential for distribution and international festival access.
Since then it has become one of the most active Polish production outlets, making such films as Claire Denis' HIGH LIFE (TIFF, San Sebastian FF, US distribution by A24), starring Robert Pattinson and Juliette Binoche, partly shot in Poland, as well as Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurdsson's UNDER THE TREE (Venice FF, TIFF, US distribution by Magnolia Pictures), Babis Maridis' Sundance-selected PITY, Emir Baigazin's THE RIVER (Best Director winner at Venice Orizzonti selection), Icelandic LAMB by Valdimar Jóhannsson starring Noomi Rapace (Un Certain Regard Cannes 2021, US distribution by A24) and produced with Warner Bros a dark hip-hop musical titled OTHER PEOPLE, directed by Aleksandra Terpińska (Tallinn Black Nights FF 2021), Agnieszka Smoczyńska’s first English-language film THE SILENT TWINS, starring Black Panther’ actress Letitia Wright selected for Cannes Un Certain Regard as well as the Ukrainian–French-Polish-
Our recent projects include BLANQUITA by Fernando Guzzoni (Venice 2022), awarded at the 2023 Venice FF with a Queer Lion prize HOUSEKEEPING FOR BEGINNERS by Goran Stolevski and JOIKA by James Napier Robertson, starring Talia Ryder and Diane Kruger.
Madants’ current line-up includes HOT SPOT by Agnieszka Smoczyńska, two documentary films: THE LAWYER by Maciek Bochniak and FREAK SHOW by Łukasz Ronduda and Filip Pawlak and two animated projects: PALE PINK by Kuba Mikurda and CHERUB by Barbara Rupik.
We are involved in several upcoming co-productions, including among others, KAMO by Kornel Mundruczo, NO BEAST SO FIERCE by Burhan Qurbani and newest Carlos Raygadas’ film.
